▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀ ARTIST STATEMENT ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄
Dri is a Filipino-American actress born and raised in the Bay Area in California. As an actress, she pursues productions in Theatre, Film, Television, and Commercials. As an artist, she pursues open collaboration and creation with fellow artists and creators alike. She is drawn to stories that allow the audience to learn and understand more of the Filipino and Filipino-American culture and experience and that can open minds to different types of perspectives. She revels in comedic characters, but also enjoys the emotional depth and work that is required for dramatic roles.
Her favorite role that she’s been able to create within is a character named Luna in the play The Heart Sellers written by Lloyd Suh. This character mirrored many experiences that her family experienced as immigrants from the Philippines. This play allowed her to showcase her comedic skills, but also gave her an opportunity to delve into the emotionally complex character work that was required to fully embody Luna. Dri hopes to be able to continue to embody these types of complex and fun characters in the future.
As an artist, she hopes to create safe spaces for vulnerable exploration in the room. She is a participating advocate for consent based creation with fellow cast mates and invites the need for intimacy coordination and collaboration in any process. She loves to be in community and joy with other artists and hopes to continue to spread understanding, empathy, and joy with each process and production she is able to be in.
